The January reading of the Singapore Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) edged up 0.1 point from the previous month to post a fifth month of continuous contraction at 49.8. The latest PMI reading was attributed to a slower contraction in the key indexes of new orders, new exports, factory output, and inventory. The Electronics Sector PMI recorded an increase of 0.2 point from the previous month to post a slower contraction at 49.1. The latest sector reading was attributed to a slower contraction in the key indexes of new orders, new exports, factory output, inventory, and employment.
At a roundtable discussion organised by SIPMM two days ago, several industry leaders highlighted two key focus to avoid and mitigate supply chain disruptions, and they are Sustainability and Resilience. Anecdotal evidences suggest that Singapore companies have been quite resilient in their supply chains thus far, but ongoing geopolitical developments could worsen the supply situations.
